What specific services does the clinical program offer? 

Sampsell PT Soccer Edge Program is an injury prevention education and training program for soccer teams and clubs looking to decrease the number of sports-related injuries that can lead to lost playing time, while increasing athlete’s abilities. The program especially addresses ACL injury prevention which affects females 2x- 10x more than males. The injury prevention program used has been developed from decades of evidence based research. Not only has the program been shown to significantly decrease the risk of soccer and sports related injuries, the Soccer Edge program improves performance on the field. Athletes who have participated in similar injury prevention training programs have also increased: 

  • speed
  • agility
  • strength
  • power

Athletes and coaches will learn soccer-specific movement patterns to keep them healthy during competition while receiving performance enhancement payoffs. Injury prevention education, as well as a process for identifying athletes who may be at greatest risk for injury, will be provided to coaches, athletes, and parents. Teams will also have access to a Sports Physical Therapist/Athletic Trainer, with more than 20 years’ experience working with soccer athletes and teams for injury prevention, for consultation throughout the program and after.

Who will benefit from the program?

Youth soccer teams, ages 8 years old and up.  

Where will services be offered?

Sampsell PT Soccer Edge Program is offered for On-field training and is conducted at the team’s location of choice. Individual Injury Consultations will be performed at the Winchester, VA clinic location.

Why us?

Sampsell PT Soccer Edge Program is led by Eric Sampsell, a sports physical therapist and Certified Athletic Trainer. Eric specializes in the health and wellness of the young athlete and has helped treat high level soccer athletes including the Netherlands Women’s World Cup team. As former soccer coach, Eric is passionate about the sport and protecting the young athletes who compete and want to pursue improving their game.  This unique combination of soccer coaching and education in the field of pediatric sports physical therapy allows the Edge Program to give the ultimate level of care to young soccer athletes and teams.
