Nutrition and Metabolic Health
Pain and the body’s tendency to heal slowly, or its inability to heal, may result from chronic inflammation. Research strongly indicates that diet and improper nutrition contribute to increased systemic inflammation. So, improved nutrition and the fuel you give to your body can be the key to healing as well.
When you are injured or get an infection, the body’s immune system kicks into gear. As your injury heals or the infection goes away, the inflammation should go away as well. However, many times immune systems do not stop, and the inflammatory process continues, hampering the ability to heal or get healthy.
As this process continues, normal and healthy cells and organs can be affected and cause pain in muscles, joints, and tissues. Chronic inflammation also can raise the risk for heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, and even Alzheimer’s disease.
Here at Sampsell Physical Therapy and Wellness, we take a holistic approach to your healing. Along with a thorough biomechanical and musculoskeletal evaluation, we discuss metabolic health, nutrition, and how your diet may fit into your problem and dysfunction.
